ECB statement to Government Announcement
Wednesday 24th February 2021
The ECB welcomes the Government’s decision to permit outdoor grassroots cricket to return in time for the start of the 2021 season from 29th March. Cricket plays an important role in many people’s lives and helps to maintain positive mental and physical wellbeing. We are working with Sport England and the Government on each step of the Government’s Roadmap. We will issue further guidance shortly on what each step of the roadmap means for the game to support players, teams, clubs, coaches and umpires to prepare in time for 29th March.
“We continue to work with Sport Wales and the Welsh Government on the safe return of recreational cricket as soon as possible in Wales.”
The Government’s roadmap also confirmed that school sport and after-school clubs can resume from 8th March. As part of this, activities such as cricket that can help pupils to be physically active while encouraging physical distancing are encouraged.
The Department for Education has published guidance to support the resumption of physical activity in schools, and coaches, teachers and venues should be aware of the following points:

The Department for Education has published guidance to support the resumption of physical activity in schools, and coaches, teachers and venues should be aware of the following points:
- Each school has the flexibility to decide how physical education, sport and physical activity will be provided
- Pupils should be kept in consistent groups, with equipment cleaned between use by individual groups
- Outdoor sports should be prioritised where possible, and large indoor spaces used where it is not
- External facilities can be used
- Competition between different schools should not take place until wider grassroots sport for under 18s is permitted
- Schools can work with external coaches, clubs and organisations for curricular and extra-curricular activities, but must be satisfied that it is safe to do so
- Further details on the guidelines around provision of activity for after-school clubs will be provided shortly

On Thursday 26 November, the Government published the full list of local restrictions by area in England. You can find out which area applies to you here.
As a naturally socially distanced sport, ECB does not consider that playing cricket contributes to the spread of COVID-19 in any significant way, and it continues to play a key role in helping to safely maintain the health and wellbeing of the nation under coronavirus restrictions. As of December 3rd, TFCC still have many options available, including a 121 coaching with 1 player/coach only (Tier 3), (see image below for more details). We also have a weekly webinar with Special Guests discussing all things cricket every Monday 6pm. For our U18s customers, Winter Camps are live on our website and ready for you to book onto for December and January 2021. As well as the continuation of our Winter Academy Sessions, Tuesdays 6-8pm U15s, and Thursdays 6-8pm U13s. We thank you all for your continued support for our small local business, stay safe and take care of yourselves. Best Wishes, TFCC Team |
Monday 14th September 2020
In response to the rising R Rate, the UK Government announced that social gatherings in England would return to being limited to 6 people whether inside or outside (except for individual households/support bubbles of more than 6 who will still be able to gather together). Recreational team sport activity that has measures in place to minimise transmission risk, was listed as an exception to this new guidance, which comes into legal effect from Monday 14 September. This means that organised cricket activity including club training, matches (league and friendly) and training courses (e.g. coaching and officiating) can continue with the current transmission prevention measures in place.
However, social and informal cricket activity for groups of more than 6 people is not permitted. The cricket community has consistently followed the UK Government’s guidance this summer and been privileged to have the opportunity to lead in the return of recreational team sport. As we approach the end of the season and look to celebrate what has been an “against all odds” summer, cricket must continue to conduct itself in a way that we can all be proud of, and support the virus control measures across England and Wales.
All clubs should encourage and take steps to ensure that everyone coming to the ground observes the following key behaviours:

All clubs should encourage and take steps to ensure that everyone coming to the ground observes the following key behaviours:
- HANDS – Wash your hands regularly and for 20 seconds.
- FACE – Wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
- SPACE – Stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place.
- Familiarise yourself with the updated Government guidance for Restaurants, pubs, bars and takeaway services here.
- From 18 September, it is a legal requirement to implement and maintain a compliant record keeping system to record contact details of all attendees for use in the NHS Test and Trace system with a risk of fines if you do not. These records should be kept for a period of 21 days. You must also keep records of staff working patterns for a period of 21 days to assist NHS Test and Trace with containing clusters or outbreaks. See the government guidance here.
- From Monday 14 September, individuals in England must not meet with people from other households socially in groups of more than 6. This will apply indoors and outdoors, including in private homes and this limit will be enforceable in law. Hospitality venues (such as cricket clubs offering food and beverage, including takeaway), can still host more than 6 people in total provided they follow COVID-19 secure guidelines, but each individual group must not mix or form larger groups. In practical terms this means socially distanced tables of a maximum of 6 people (except for individual households/ support bubbles of more than 6 who will still be able to gather together) – clubs should re-assess their venue capacities, layouts and circulation routes to maintain social distancing in accordance with the new ‘Rule of Six’. Clubs that are found to operate in a way that increases the risk of transmission (for example by facilitating indoor gatherings between multiple households) can be closed by Local Authorities.
- Clubs should review any revised arrangements and layouts with the terms of their premises licence / certificate and consult with their licensing authority where necessary.
- The number of people permitted to gather in indoor and outdoor spaces could vary with local restrictions. Clubs should consult their local guidance for further clarification on the number of people permitted to gather at their ground.

TFCC (Group Ltd) - COVID-19 Update Statement - May 18th 2020
Tom Flowers Cricket Coaching (Part of the TFCC Group Ltd) would like to update all cricketers and schools on the latest advice we will be using for the future weeks following the COVID-19 outbreak in the UK. TFCC / TFCC Group Ltd would like to thank you all for your patience and support during these continued uncertain times. Now that the government has given us all an update on the current crisis and how the guidelines may differ in the upcoming weeks, TFCC would like to update you all on how this will work for us all, including social interaction and cricketing opportunities. As of the May 18th 2020 the ECB maintains the position that all recreational cricket remains suspended until further notice, with the sole exception of the use of outdoor cricket facilities (nets and pitches) for the purpose of undertaking exercise as set out in our detailed guidance document The Government guidelines as of May 18th 2020, state that: “If you are a personal trainer/coach you can now work with clients outdoors, providing you are alone and only meeting with 1 person from outside of your household, outdoors, and you are staying a minimum of 2 metres apart. You can meet with different clients in a single day as long as it is only via one-to-one sessions and you are maintaining social distancing. You should also enforce strong hygiene measures. This might be cleaning any equipment rigorously in line with wider guidance on hygiene, for example by using antibacterial spray and washing hands thoroughly before and after use.” - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-phased-return-of-sport-and-recreation/guidance-for-personal-trainers-and-coaches-on-the-phased-return-of-sport-and-recreation The ECB has provided detailed guidance on the preparation and administration of outdoor facilities for clubs and individuals. The ECB is clear that outdoor facilities should only reopen if those responsible for them are ready to do so and they can do so safely, following public health guidance: no club should reopen their outdoor facilities if they feel unable to meet the requirements. The situation is evolving constantly, and we will continue to update our guidance as more information becomes available. At this stage there is still no confirmed date to restart the season so club trainings are still on hold. For more information for clubs regarding the guidelines please go to the ECB website https://www.ecb.co.uk/news/1668576/ecb-guidelines-for-the-use-of-outdoor-cricket-facilities-in-lockdown As of today, TFCC still have many options available, including a reduced 121 coaching programme as selected clubs (see image below).
